Stain Removal
Reviewed first-line stain guidance plus fabric-specific solver rules where a combination has passed review.
Reviewed stain library
The library stores first-line processes for common laundry stains with source, review and freshness metadata. Fabric-specific treatment appears only where an exact stain × fabric rule has passed review.
Open Stain Removal SolverA stain page can explain a general first-line process without claiming every fabric can use it. The solver rejects unsupported combinations rather than filling the gap with generic advice.
Blood
Fresh blood is a protein-based stain that should start with cold water. Hot water can set the stain, so treatment and laundering should stay within the garment's care instructions.
Butter
Butter is an oily food stain. ACI guidance supports pretreatment with a laundry stain-removal product before laundering at the hottest temperature that is safe for the fabric.
Chocolate
Chocolate can leave both oily and colored residue. Remove excess material, use cool water first, pretreat, and then wash using the warmest setting allowed by the care label.
Coffee
A beverage stain that benefits from prompt treatment and a cool-water first response before laundering.
Cosmetics / Lipstick
Cosmetics and lipstick can combine oils, waxes and pigments. Start with a laundry prewash product or liquid detergent that is safe for the garment, then launder according to its care label.
Deodorant
Deodorant marks can build from product residue and body soils. Light marks may respond to liquid laundry detergent; heavier residue can need a prewash stain remover before laundering.
Fruit Juice
Fruit-juice stains can contain sugars, acids and natural colorants. ACI guidance supports prompt treatment, enzyme-containing pretreatment or soaking when suitable, then laundering.
Grass
Grass stains contain plant pigments and often respond to enzyme-based pretreatment before laundering. Fabric-specific restrictions still control the product and wash settings you can use.
Grease
An oily stain that usually needs pretreatment with a laundry product before the wash cycle.
Ice Cream
Ice-cream stains combine food components such as protein, fat and sugar. ACI recommends enzyme-based pretreatment or soaking followed by laundering in the warmest water safe for the fabric.
Ketchup
Ketchup is best addressed promptly. Remove excess sauce, flush cool water from the back of a washable fabric, pretreat, and then wash according to the care label.
Mud
Mud is easier to manage after loose soil is allowed to dry and is brushed away. Remaining soil can then be pretreated with detergent or an enzyme laundry product before washing.
Perspiration
Perspiration marks can combine moisture, salts and body soil. A prewash stain remover or laundry soap can be used before washing at the warmest temperature the garment care label allows.
Tea
Tea is a beverage stain with tannin components that benefits from prompt cool-water treatment, followed by a suitable pretreatment and laundering within the garment care limits.
