Laundry Labels

Decode written care instructions without reproducing protected care-symbol artwork.

Decode the instruction, then take the next safe action

This is the care-label reference surface: choose a reviewed written instruction and translate it into the action it controls. Use the tutorial when you need to understand how a whole label is organized.

The finished-item label controls

Fiber type alone cannot grant a wash, bleach, dryer, iron, or professional-care permission that the permanent label does not give.

Direct answer

What does this laundry care instruction mean?

Read the permanent care instruction as the controlling limit, then translate that instruction into the next wash, dry, bleach, iron, or professional-care action.

Do this

Start here
Choose the written instruction that appears on the item.
Then
Use the decoded action as a limit; do not infer missing permissions from fiber type alone.

Do not do this

  • If the label is missing, contradictory, damaged, or uses a symbol you cannot confidently identify, stop and resolve the instruction before adding heat or aggressive treatment.

Why

Finished-item construction, dyes, trims, and finishes can make generic fiber advice too permissive.

Instruction first

Treat the permanent label as the item-specific ceiling.

Action second

Translate the instruction into a wash, dry, bleach, iron, or professional-care limit.

Stop when unclear

Unknown or conflicting instructions need resolution before stronger treatment.

Visual action reference

Think in care actions, not memorized icons.

These original explanatory cards describe what each category controls. They do not reproduce standardized care-symbol artwork.

Wash

Method, water-temperature ceiling, cycle limits, and whether wet washing is permitted.

Bleach

Whether bleaching is permitted and whether the instruction narrows the chemistry you may use.

Dry

Tumble permission, heat ceiling, air-dry route, flat/hang handling, and shade or prompt-removal limits.

Iron

Heat ceiling plus modifiers such as no steam, damp ironing, or a press cloth.

Professional care

Dry-cleaning permissions and process restrictions that should not be replaced by generic home washing.

Stop and resolve

If the instruction is missing, contradictory, damaged, or unclear, resolve it before adding stronger chemistry, agitation, or heat.
