Start by diluting the residue
Rinse or blot away as much fresh toothpaste as practical. Avoid scrubbing a thick paste deeper into the weave.
Pretreat the visible mark
Apply a compatible laundry detergent or stain pretreatment according to its label. Whitening or colored toothpaste can leave a visible residue even after the bulk of the paste is gone.
Use the normal garment-safe cycle
Wash on the cycle and temperature allowed by the clothing care label. Do not raise heat only to chase a stain if the garment has a lower care limit.
Repeat before the dryer
Inspect the fabric after washing. If a mark remains, repeat the compatible treatment before tumble drying rather than using heat to hide or set the residue.
