Start with the decision that matters
Laundry detergent packets are concentrated single-load products. Follow the packet label and washer instructions rather than cutting, opening or measuring the packet contents.
Choose the process
For many products, the packet goes into the washer drum before clothes so water can reach and dissolve it; some machines have specific instructions, so check the manual.
Avoid the common shortcut
Do not overload the washer. A tightly packed load can reduce water exposure and contribute to undissolved packet residue. Use the product’s packet count guidance for load and soil rather than inventing fractions.
Finish and troubleshoot
Store packets in their original closed container, out of reach of children and people who may mistake them for another product. If residue remains after washing, re-rinse according to garment and product directions before drying.
Garment care labels, appliance manuals and laundry-product directions can be more specific than a general guide. Use them when they set a tighter limit.
