Start with the decision that matters
Towels can feel stiff when detergent or mineral residue accumulates, when they are overdried, or when the washer is packed too tightly to rinse well. Diagnose the process before adding more products.
Choose the process
Use the detergent label dose for the load, soil and water conditions. Too much detergent can leave residue; too little may not remove body oils and soil effectively.
Avoid the common shortcut
Fabric softener can make textiles feel softer but may affect absorbency on some towels. Follow the towel and softener manufacturer directions rather than making it a default ingredient.
Finish and troubleshoot
Give towels enough room to move, rinse and tumble. Dry within the care-label limits and avoid repeatedly overdrying, which can make fibers feel harsher over time.
Garment care labels, appliance manuals and laundry-product directions can be more specific than a general guide. Use them when they set a tighter limit.
